Tangy Apple Slaw Burgers

 

Burgers:

1 ½ pounds ground chuck

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon pepper

 

Apple Slaw:

½ head green cabbage, finely shredded

1 carrot, peeled and grated

3 tablespoons finely minced onion

1 teaspoon finely minced garlic

1 crisp apple, cored, unpeeled and shredded

¼ cup salad dressing mayonnaise (Miracle Whip)

1 Lime Fruitfull® bar, thawed

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

¾ pound gouda cheese, sliced

4 Chiabatta rolls

Instructions:  For apple slaw:  In a medium bowl toss cabbage, carrot, onion, garlic and apple.  Remove ¼ cup and set aside.  To remaining cabbage mixture adds salad dressing, Lime Fruitfull® bar, salt and pepper, tossing well to coat.  Refrigerate. 

For burgers:  In a medium bowl gently toss ground chuck, 1/4 cup reserved cabbage mixture, salt and pepper.  Shape mixture into 4 patties, handling as little as possible to keep from making patties dense.   Heat grill to medium high temperature and bush with oil.  Grill burgers 5-7 minutes on each side.  Top burgers with sliced cheese and allow to melt while grilling bread just until toasted and grill marked on one side. To serve, place bottom bun on each plate, top with burger and spoon on ¼ cup apple slaw top with other half of bun and enjoy!   Makes 4 servings.
